inMy neighbor said my new fence looks 'aggressive' because it's 6 feet tall
Can I tell you what happened to my friend Carol? She put up a simple six foot privacy fence in her backyard and her neighbor had a fit. Said it was too tall, too closed off, that it would make the whole street feel like a fortress. Carol just smiled and said sorry but she needed privacy for her kids and her dog. Two months later that same neighbor had a tree come down in a storm and Carol let them borrow her fence tools to secure their yard. By the end of summer the neighbor was asking Carol who built her fence because they wanted one just like it. People really do just need time to get used to things.

inJust realized I was torquing lug nuts way too tight for 8 years after a wheel stud snapped on a 2015 F-150 at 60 mph on I-35.
150 ft-lbs is barely more than what the spec is for a lot of those trucks anyway. A stud snapping at 60 mph sounds like a bad part or improper thread engagement, not your torque wrench. If anything, you were probably keeping those wheels on tighter than the factory ever intended, which is a good thing for safety on the highway. Guys who follow the exact spec on paper end up with loose wheels and vibration complaints more often than not. Keep going tight and just buy better studs.

inRan across a stat that said 60% of boiler explosions happen during startup... found it in an old OSHA report from 1987
60% during startup, that blew my mind" - yeah same here. I used to do boiler work on the side for a few years and we had a rule: triple check the water level before anything. Learned that the hard way after a near miss with a firetube unit back in 03. The purging thing is no joke either. Most guys skip it to save time. That Oregon case is wild, I remember hearing about it from an old foreman.

inMy sourdough starter went crazy and almost took over my kitchen in Seattle
Fred sounds like a LIVE ONE. I read somewhere that sourdough starters can double in size SO fast if they're really healthy and the temperature is right. Seattle's humidity probably helps them go nuts too. My buddy in Portland said her starter burst the lid off a mason jar once, glass everywhere. Now she always uses a big mixing bowl as a safety net, just like viola said. Those 6 AM emergency loaves must have smelled AMAZING though.

inRant: People forget to account for creosote glaze on new inserts
Honestly I used to think a good brush and elbow grease was enough for any buildup. But after dealing with that glassy creosote on a brand new insert last month I totally changed my mind. That rotary chain setup is the only way to crack through it, right?
