My coworker insisted I should always report a broken public bike rack

I saw one bent out of shape at the park near my house for weeks and didn't think much of it. I finally called the city's non-emergency line like she said, and they fixed it in two days. When is it our job to report small public issues, or should we just assume someone else will?

My friend Sam had a streetlight out on his block for a month. He finally reported it and they had a crew out there in three days. It really does make a difference to just call it in.

Yeah, I read something about how most cities have a system for this but they don't know about the problem unless someone tells them. Makes you wonder how many other things just need a quick call, right?
