The week a 40-yard pour went sideways in July heat

Got a call for a big driveway in Phoenix, 40 yards scheduled for a Thursday. The plant truck showed up two hours late, and the temp hit 110 by 10 AM. We were fighting the set the whole time, and the homeowner kept coming out to ask why it looked 'dusty'. Had to spray retarder and work through lunch just to get it closed up. What's your go-to move when the weather turns on you mid-pour?

PSA: I saw a guy at the Milwaukee Tool show skip the layout and just start cutting trim, and it went bad fast.

He was installing crown in a demo booth and just eyeballed the angles, saying his experience was enough. He ended up with a 3/8 inch gap on the final corner that he had to fill with a ton of caulk. It looked terrible under the bright lights. Who else thinks skipping the math and the story stick is just asking for trouble, even on what seems like a simple job?

Update: That 'simple' power supply swap in a Dell Optiplex 7050 turned into a 3 hour fight

Client brought it in for a new PSU, said it was a 10 minute job. The proprietary 8-pin motherboard connector was fused to the board from heat, and the plastic latch crumbled when I touched it. Spent over an hour carefully extracting the broken pins with tweezers and a dental pick before I could even seat the new unit. Has anyone in Phoenix run into this with the Optiplex 70xx series lately?

Saw a chart showing Taco Bell sells over 2 billion tacos a year

Found it on a food industry blog yesterday. That's more than five million tacos a day, which is insane to picture. Makes you wonder how much of that is just the Crunchwrap Supreme.

My neighbor's sad rose bush came back to life in one month

I saw it every day and it was just a few brown sticks with maybe two leaves. He said he started giving it a special food for roses and more water, like a full gallon three times a week. After about four weeks, it had over twenty new green leaves and three pink buds. Has anyone else had a plant look dead but then get better fast?

Shoutout to the 3M rep who suggested trying their new fine line tape on a tricky curve

I was working on a 2017 Mustang rear quarter panel with a really tight curve near the tail light. The old tape kept lifting and I was about to re-mask the whole thing. The rep said to try the new stuff, so I gave it a shot. It laid down perfect on the first try with no lift at all, even around that sharp bend. What's your go-to tape for tough curves like that?
