I saw a guy drop his wallet in the grocery store parking lot last Tuesday

It was at the Safeway on Elm Street, and he was already driving away. I picked it up and saw it had about $80 in cash, plus his cards. I ended up driving it to his house, which was only a few blocks away, and he was really thankful. Do you think you're obligated to go that far, or is turning it in at the store enough?

Honestly, turning it in at the store is fine, but you never know if it'll get back to him. I'd at least try to find him online first. Like, look up the name on the ID and send a message. If that doesn't work, then yeah, leaving it at the store is doing your part. Driving it to his house is going above and beyond, which is awesome, but not required.

Yeah, the "going above and beyond" part reminds me of this time I found a phone in a parking lot. I charged it at home and waited for a call, and the guy's friend called like an hour later. I met up to give it back and the dude was so relieved, he gave me twenty bucks for a coffee. Felt good, but you're right, just handing it in somewhere is already a solid move.
