Spent $600 on a premium networking membership and all I got was spam

I joined this high dollar entrepreneur network group back in January thinking it would connect me with serious founders. Instead, I got flooded with DMs from people selling courses and MLM schemes. The actual events were just pitch sessions. Has anyone found a local networking group that actually works for building real partnerships?

Had a buddy drop $400 on a local "founder circle" thinking it'd be full of legit startup types. Showed up to the first mixer and it was just a bunch of guys selling essential oils and a guy trying to recruit people for his "passive income" crypto app. He said the actual founders there were just pitching their own products the whole time, nobody wanted to hear about his boring SaaS. He ended up leaving early because one dude followed him to his car trying to sell him a coaching package.

Wait, did @cole_hall's buddy actually check if there was a refund policy? Some of those groups are just hustler meetups pretending to be legit. I went to one once that was basically a multi-level marketing convention in disguise. They charged $300 and the only real content was a guy selling PDFs on "how to be an influencer." Total waste of money.
