Talked to a building inspector about firestop and it changed my whole view

I read an article about how the Great Chicago Fire changed building rules. They started requiring brick walls and wider streets to stop fires from spreading. That highway for smoke idea makes total sense now.

Vent: A volunteer at the Cahokia Mounds dig last summer kept pointing out tiny bone fragments everyone else was walking past.

Oh wait, I think you can walk on the plowed fields around it though, just not the mounds themselves. But yeah, totally get what you mean about looking down now lol.

PSA: I blew $800 on a brand audit from a 'guru' who just gave me a list of buzzwords.

My cousin had a similar thing happen with her bakery. She paid a consultant who told her to "optimize her artisanal narrative" but never mentioned her famous sourdough or the farmers market crowds. It was all about finding your "authentic space" in the market. She ended up just asking her regulars what they liked and built from there. Sometimes the simple way is right in front of you.

Can we talk about the Crunchyroll outage last Tuesday that wiped my entire 'Plan to Watch' list?

Eighty shows is a brutal loss. Did they give any reason for the outage, or just a generic "technical issue" statement? Their response feels like they don't see a saved list as real user data worth protecting. I keep a note on my phone now too, but it's crazy we have to do their job for them.

Vent: My buddy insisted the 'Annihilation' movie was better than the book

What did your friend say was better about the movie? I feel like the book builds this slow, quiet panic in your head that a film just can't do. The movie gave us cool visuals but lost all that internal weirdness from the biologist's journal. It's a totally different kind of scary.
