Remember when we used to hand file those old Otis guide rails?
We had a job in an old Chicago building where the rails were so out of spec, and my partner insisted on using the old manual method. I brought in a portable rail grinder we'd just gotten, and we finished the whole bank in two days instead of the estimated week. What's the biggest time saver you've seen come into the trade?

Just gotta tape off the area and hook up a good shop vac.

Portable grinders changed everything for us too.

But what about the mess and dust they create everywhere? It seems like a trade-off for speed that might not be worth it in a clean shop. Sometimes the old fixed station is just less hassle.
