Switched from ultrasonic cleaning to a good old toothbrush for small circuit board flux and never looked back.

Used to drop boards in the ultrasonic for 10 minutes until I cooked a vintage synth board last spring, now I just use 99% IPA and a stiff bristle brush for $3 - has anyone else found ultrasonic overkill for delicate stuff like old game consoles?

Buddy nuked a SNES board with ultrasonic last year, never again.

Fair enough but sometimes it depends on the board and the cleaner. I've seen plenty of people run Genesis and NES boards through an ultrasonic with just distilled water and a drop of soap with no issues. Could be your buddy used the wrong solution or left it in too long. That stuff matters a lot more than people realize.
