Old school knob and tube gave me a scare last Tuesday
I was swapping out a ceiling fixture in a 1920s house over in Maplewood and found the old cloth wiring still live. Someone had just buried the junction box behind drywall, no cover plate or nothing. Had to trace the whole circuit back to the panel and disconnect it proper. Anyone else run into old knob and tube hidden in plain sight?

Buried the junction box behind drywall" is exactly the kind of stupid shortcut that gets people killed. I had almost the same thing in a 1910 rowhouse, found live knob and tube stuffed into a wall cavity with no box at all. Ended up having to open three more spots in the ceiling to chase it back to the panel and disconnect it completely.
