I spent 8 years twisting wire nuts wrong until a union journeyman called me out on a job site in Austin

I always just twisted the wires together with the nut and called it good. Never had a call back so I thought it was fine. Then this older guy watched me do a ceiling fan and goes "you're gonna get a loose neutral in 6 months." He showed me to pre-twist the conductors with linesmans before the wire nut goes on. Tried it and the connection felt solid in a way I never felt before. Made me wonder what else I've been doing half right for years. Any of you guys ever get caught slipping on something basic like that?

Honestly, I used to think pre-twisting was overkill too, but after seeing how much cleaner the connection feels, I'm totally with you now.

Nah, I gotta disagree on this one. I've tried pre-twisting a few times and honestly it just doesn't save me any time in the long run, plus I feel like I get a better connection just snugging them together as they go. Maybe my hands are too clumsy for it but I'll take the extra second per splice over fighting with pre-made twists any day.
