Rant: A ceiling collapse in a Tucson hotel taught me to always check the framing first
I was hanging board in a hotel lobby remodel last year, just putting up the last few sheets on a high ceiling. The foreman kept saying the schedule was tight, so we skipped checking the old joists. Half the ceiling came down overnight because the wood was rotten from a roof leak nobody told us about. Now I refuse to start any job without a full look at the structure, even if it means pushing back on the boss. How do you guys handle it when management tries to rush you past the prep work?

Checking the framing every single time seems like overkill. Most jobs the wood is fine. You just had bad luck with that one leak. Bosses push schedules because time is money, that's the whole job. Sometimes you just have to trust the last crew did their work right.
