Spent a whole shift fighting a clogged pump until I tried the reverse trick

Ngl, I was losing my mind on a job near Baton Rouge last month. The dredge pump kept jamming up with roots and debris every 20 minutes. A guy named Dave from the night crew told me to just reverse the pump rotation for a few seconds before clearing it. Honestly, it pushed the clog loose way faster than digging in with a rod. Has anyone else used this trick for tough debris on a swing dredge?

Forget the rod, I've been using this trick for years. Mainly because it makes me look like a genius instead of the guy who just spent 20 minutes cussing at a chunk of wood.

Same here @averywright. I keep a short piece of copper pipe in my truck for exactly this reason. Makes me look like I planned it all along after 15 minutes of failed attempts.
