My boss in Phoenix said to never use a 0.5mm lead for structural details...

I ignored him on a foundation plan last month and the lead snapped mid-section, leaving a tiny graphite crater right in the footing line. Anyone have a go-to lead hardness for that kind of work?

My old drafting instructor swore by 2H lead for any permanent line work. It's hard enough to not smudge but still lays down a consistent, dark line under firm pressure. I keep a 0.7mm 2H in a separate clutch holder just for foundation layouts. The harder lead resists snapping from the side pressure when you're sliding a straightedge.

Remember my buddy who used a 4H for everything? His lines were so faint the blueprint machine barely picked them up. We had to redraw a whole sewer plan.
