Showerthought: I tried the 'cold turkey' way to stop checking my phone and it backfired big time

I turned off all my app alerts for a week, thinking I'd feel less stressed. Instead, I kept picking up my phone every ten minutes just to see if I missed something, which made me more anxious. I learned that for me, having a few key alerts on actually stops the constant checking. Has anyone else found that going totally silent made things worse?

Cutting off all alerts worked perfectly for me. The first few days were tough, but my brain eventually stopped expecting the buzz. Total silence was the only way to break the habit.

Totally get this, I used to think cutting off all alerts was the only way to go. But I had the same thing happen where I'd just check my phone more out of pure fear of missing a text from my partner or a work email. Letting a couple important things through actually calms that itch to constantly look. What kind of alerts did you decide to keep on?

Ever try the total silence thing and find it made you check more? I was the same, all or nothing. Now I let texts from my wife and calendar alerts through. That little bit of noise actually made me less glued to the screen.
