Shoutout to that time my dryer belt snapped and I fixed it myself
I was over at my buddy's place in Austin last Tuesday just hanging out when his dryer stopped mid cycle with a loud thump. He was about to call a repair guy for like $150 but I told him to hold up and let me take a look. I popped the top off and saw the broken belt right away, all frayed and wrapped around the drum. We drove to the hardware store and got a new belt for $12 and I had it swapped in about 20 minutes. He was pretty shocked it was that simple and offered to buy me dinner. Has anyone else fixed something simple like that and saved a ton of cash?

Honestly, @the_betty hit the nail on the head. People are way too quick to call a pro for stuff that's genuinely not rocket science. Ngl, I did the exact same thing with my own garbage disposal a few months back, just a jammed impeller that took a hex wrench and five minutes. Tbh it's kind of satisfying to just fix your own stuff and not hand over a hundred bucks for it. It's wild how much confidence people lose in their own two hands these days.

Kinda makes you think about how we all just assume everything is complicated now. Twenty minutes and twelve bucks versus a hundred fifty and waiting around for some guy. That's the world we live in where everyone thinks they need an expert for a belt swap. People forget their hands still work.
