Used dish soap on my deck for years until a neighbor in Montana told me I was stripping the sealant

I was pressure washing my deck last summer and my neighbor Bob walks over and asks what I use for the mildew. I said dish soap and bleach. He just shook his head and told me I've been wrecking the sealant every time. Switched to a proper deck cleaner this spring and the difference is night and day. Anyone else find out they were using the wrong stuff for years on their exterior wood?
