Update: Quieted my screeching garage door on a Saturday morning
Lately, I've noticed a lot of people just ignore their noisy garage doors, but mine was so loud it was embarrassing. Every morning, it would screech and wake up the whole street. I decided to figure it out instead of calling a pro. First, I checked the tracks for dirt and found a bunch of gunk. I cleaned it all out with a mix of vinegar and water, then dried it. After that, I applied some garage door lubricant to the rollers and hinges. The difference was instant, no more crazy sounds. It's a basic fix that saves a ton on repair bills, and I feel pretty proud, lmao.

Yeah the vinegar and water mix is a solid move for cleaning the gunk out. One thing I learned the hard way is not to go crazy with the lubricant afterwards, because too much of it just attracts more dirt and you're back to square one in a few months. Just a quick spray on the moving parts does it. Also, check the springs while you're at it, because if those are going bad, the noise comes back fast. Mine looked fine but had a tiny crack I almost missed.

Staring at your springs for an hour is the new weekend meditation, I guess. But seriously, that tiny crack thing is no joke, it's like a time bomb for your door. Good on you for fixing the noise yourself, that screech is the worst alarm clock a neighbor could ask for. Just wait until you get the urge to adjust the opener force settings next, that's a whole other rabbit hole.

That tiny crack Jamie mentioned in the spring is wild to me. I can't believe something you can barely see can mean the whole spring is about to go. The idea of it snapping while the door is moving is actually scary, like it could seriously mess something up. It's crazy how such a small thing you'd ignore can turn into a huge, dangerous problem real fast. Makes me want to go stare at my springs for an hour now.
