Wasted $400 on a Facebook ad optimization tool that did nothing

I signed up for this ad optimization platform back in April. They promised to automatically tweak my targeting and bids to lower costs. After 8 weeks my CPA actually went up 22% and my conversions dropped hard. I kept thinking it just needed more time to learn my account. Nope. Canceled it yesterday and went back to manual bid adjustments. Has anyone else had a tool like this actually work for them or am I better off sticking with the basics?

Oh man, that's rough. I tried one of those "smart bidding" tools for my ecommerce store a couple years ago. It kept trying to show my ads to people who had already bought my product, like it thought a repeat purchase would happen every week. I gave it three months and my return on ad spend just kept getting worse. I went back to just checking my campaigns myself once a day and that worked way better. Sometimes the old ways are the best ways.
