PSA: I just hit 500 hours on my personal scan tool and the data is wild

I bought a Matco MDI a few years back for side work, mostly to clear codes on pickups. I finally checked the total run time the other day... 512 hours. That's over 21 straight days of just having it plugged in and working. What got me was looking at the most common codes pulled. Not injector issues or glow plugs... it was exhaust gas temperature sensor faults, specifically on 6.7 Power Strokes from 2015 to 2019. I've seen that same code pop up 47 separate times in my log. It tells me we're not just fixing broken parts, we're dealing with a design flaw that keeps coming back around. Makes you wonder what other patterns we're all missing because we don't track our own numbers. Has anyone else dug into their tool logs and found a weird trend like that?

Seems like a sensor that just fails a lot to me.

Actually finley_craig53, it's more about how it's installed than the part itself. A lot of those failures come from moisture getting into the connector, not the sensor dying. People often don't seal the wiring harness right. I've seen units last for years if the connection is done properly with dielectric grease and good tape. It's a common fix in the shop.
