Wasted $80 on a fancy espresso machine that I barely use now
Last fall I bought this fancy espresso machine thinking I'd save money on coffee shop runs. I spent $80 on it at a local shop near downtown. After like two weeks, the novelty wore off and I went back to my old habits. Now it just sits on the counter collecting dust because I'm too lazy to clean the portafilter every morning. I still drive to the gas station for a $2 mug of drip coffee instead. Has anyone else bought something they thought would change their routine but just ended up ignoring it?

A thirty dollar hand grinder and a french press would have gotten you better coffee for less money and way less cleanup, I think that machine was overkill for just wanting to save a few bucks. The daily routine of using a real espresso machine is a bigger commitment than most people realize until they're staring at it every morning. Sometimes simpler tools actually get used more since there's less friction involved.

Reminds me of the guy I saw trying to dial in a Breville at 6am with a toddler screaming. It's a lifestyle choice, that machine.
