Appreciation post: The time a hotel clerk in Denver upgraded me for free after I was super nice about a mix-up

I had a reservation glitch at check-in, and my first reaction was to be patient and crack a joke instead of getting mad. The front desk guy was so relieved he moved me to a suite with a mountain view, no extra charge. Has anyone else gotten way better service just by not being the angry customer?

I get what you mean about good customer service, but that clerk went way beyond just fixing a problem. They gave a free upgrade to a suite, which costs real money. Basic service would be just fixing the glitch. I've worked retail, and when someone is kind about a mess up, you remember it. You want to do something extra nice for them, not just the bare minimum. That's the difference.

My last hotel stay had a billing error and the front desk person just fixed it with a blank stare. No upgrade for me, guess my nice face needs work. That clerk really did go above and beyond, like hollym82 said. It feels rare to get that kind of treatment now, doesn't it?
