Swapped from a manual chart to an app for crane capacity on big jobs

Back in 2019 I was still flipping through a paper load chart book for every lift on a hospital site in Phoenix. Then a 90 ton Grove I was running had a tricky pick near a tight corner, and the app on my phone gave me the radius and capacity in under 10 seconds. Does anyone still carry actual chart books, or is everyone running digital now?

Wait are you sure that app gave you the right radius for a tricky pick like that? I mean Ive seen guys try to use those apps and they mess up the ground slope or forget to account for the outrigger spread. Paper charts are still better for double checking the curve of the load chart especially on older cranes that don't have digital readouts built in. But yeah most guys I know have the app on their phone now even if they keep the book in the truck for backup. Just dont trust it blindly is all Im saying cause Ive caught two different apps showing wrong numbers for the same crane model.

Whoa hold on, has anyone actually checked if that app is pulling data from the manufacturer's latest revision or just some old PDF someone scanned in? I swear half those apps are using the same outdated chart from 2018.
