Just had a hot tool meltdown in the middle of a perm service

I was in the middle of wrapping a spiral perm at my chair in Salon Lofts in Austin last Tuesday when my Marcia Teixeira iron just... died completely. The heat wouldn't stabilize and it was burning my client's hair no matter what I did, so I had to grab a backup from another station and re-wrap half the sections in a panic. Has anyone else had a tool fail mid-service and how did you handle the timing without messing up the whole set?

Yeah, it's wild how they just give up on you mid-session. One minute you're getting that perfect crease on your favorite button-down, and the next you're staring at a glowing red light of doom (or darkness, I guess). Reminds me of my last attempt at ironing a dress shirt for a wedding - the thing died right as I hit the collar, and I had to show up looking like I slept in a trash bag. Apparently these irons are like goldfish with heating elements, they just expire whenever they feel like it.
