Peanut butter belongs in the fridge, fight me on this

I grabbed a jar of Skippy from my roommate's pantry last Tuesday and it was this oily, runny mess that dripped all over my toast. Room temperature peanut butter just turns into a slippery disaster and nobody talks about how the oil separates faster. Am I the only one who keeps their PB cold so it actually stays thick and spreadable?

My last jar of natural peanut butter sat in my kitchen at 72 degrees and the oil was a solid inch on top within two days. @wesley_fox92 you might be right about Skippy's preservatives but that oily room temp stuff still happens faster than people admit. I keep mine in the fridge door and it stays thick enough to actually hold together on bread without dripping down my hand. Cold peanut butter just spreads better without that greasy mess.

Used to think fridge made it too hard and crumbly but honestly this is changing my mind. The oil separation drives me nuts with natural stuff even at room temp, and you're right @bethj44 that cold spread is way less greasy. Tried it this morning on toast and it didn't slide off like it usually does. Might be a game changer for me actually.

Hold up, Skippy has preservatives that keep it from separating that fast.
