I used to run for the train doors every single morning like a maniac
I was that guy sprinting down the platform at 34th Street, shoving past people, barely making it through the closing doors. Then last Tuesday I slipped on a wet spot and ate it hard right in front of like 50 people. A stranger helped me up and just said 'the next one's in 4 minutes, dude it's not that serious.' That hit me. Now I just walk normal and wait for the next train. Has anyone else had a moment where they realized they were making their commute way harder than it needed to be?

Isn't that kind of the whole point though? Some mornings 4 minutes is the difference between making a meeting or not. Missing it and standing around freezing for that long sucks.

The slip and fall probably did wake you up a bit, but I'm not fully buying that waiting 4 minutes is always the right call. Missing a train can mean standing on a cold platform for way longer if you're at a station with bad schedules. Sometimes those few extra minutes matter if you have a meeting or a doctor's appointment you can't be late for.
