Tried using a shop vac instead of a brush on a heavy creosote job yesterday

Got way more packed-on stuff out than I expected, but the filter clogged in about 10 minutes flat, so now I'm wondering if anyone else has found a good filter setup for wet or sticky jobs?

Wait, a paint strainer bag over the intake hose? That's actually brilliant (why didn't I think of that). I swear @wadebailey always comes through with the random hacks that actually work.

Man I feel your pain, I did the exact same thing last year and spent the next hour cussing at a filter that looked like a tar monster. My buddy swears by putting a cheap paint strainer bag over the intake hose before it hits the vac, catches the big gunk and the filter stays clean way longer. Tried it myself and it worked okay but you still gotta watch the bag fill up fast on a heavy job like that.
