Tried using avocado oil for searing steaks and it smoked out my entire kitchen

I thought I was being smart using avocado oil with its high smoke point for a crust on ribeyes last night, but my apartment in Denver filled with smoke within 2 minutes. The oil was smoking before the pan even got hot enough to sear, and now I'm wondering if I got a bad batch or if I'm just missing something. Anybody else have avocado oil burn on them way below what it's supposed to handle?

Ngl your pan was probably way too hot for avocado oil honestly.

Same thing happened to me last week, it's so frustrating when you think you've got the heat right.
