Heard a line cook say salt is just salt and I had to stop what I was doing

He was using table salt on a burger patty the other night and I asked him to try kosher once just to see if he noticed the difference, has anyone else dealt with cooks who think seasoning is seasoning?

Is he also saying all knives cut the same no matter what you use? That's a dangerous way of thinking in a kitchen. Salt might look the same on paper but the way kosher salt lets you control how much actually hits the food makes a real difference in cooking. Table salt is so fine it can easily over-salt something before you even realize it. You ever watch him try to pinch table salt and it just falls through his fingers like sand? That alone should tell him there's a difference. Sounds like he needs to spend an afternoon doing a side by side taste test with two identical patties.

Switched to kosher salt a few years back and never looked back, way easier to feel how much you're actually grabbing with your fingers. Night and day difference when you're seasoning something quick.
