When my dispatcher pushed for a quicker turnaround

I was hauling a load cross-country and running behind schedule. My dispatcher called and suggested I trim my rest break to make up time. It's against the rules to drive over hours, but they said it's common practice. I felt stuck between keeping my job and following the law. I thought about the risks, like tiredness causing crashes. In the end, I stuck to the legal rest period. It cost me a delay, but I slept better knowing I did the right thing. For anyone in a tight spot, remember that shortcuts can backfire big time. Your license and rep are worth more than one late delivery.

Speaking of dispatcher pushback... a buddy of mine got his logbook audited after cutting corners, and it was a mess. @the_brooke's right about that clean license feeling.

Honestly, when sandrawilson mentioned that logbook audit was a mess, I couldn't believe it. Cutting corners like that is asking for trouble, man. I know a driver who got slapped with a huge fine and had his license suspended for faking his hours. Dispatchers pushing for speed over safety is wild, but risking your career isn't smart. You gotta keep your records straight, no matter what. Staying legal might slow you down, but it keeps you driving.

Respect you for holding the line on that. Tbh I got that same pressure last year with a fresh produce load, dispatcher breathing down my neck about deadlines. Ngl it's scary when they make it sound like your job is on the line. I did the math in my head and pictured a crash or a DOT scale pulling my records. Stuck to my breaks too and got chewed out later, but my license is clean. Feels way better to know you can sleep at night and still have a job tomorrow.
