Went to a tech meetup in Raleigh and saw a guy use a simple notebook trick

It was at a small talk about project management. The speaker, a lead engineer, pulled out a regular paper notebook. He said he writes down three things he actually did each day, not just his to-do list. He's kept it for two years. It helps him see his real progress during reviews. Anyone else track their work in a weirdly simple way like that?

So the guy's big tech secret is writing stuff down on paper? What's next, using a sundial to track sprint deadlines? I guess my method of trying to remember everything and then panicking is the weirdly complex alternative. Does anyone actually have the discipline to do that every single day for two years?

Seriously though leep89, what's the actual failure mode when you skip a day? Does the whole system fall apart?
