The day I stopped waiting for a 'perfect' career moment

I was sitting in my truck last Tuesday outside a job in St. Louis, about to turn down a small electrical repair because I kept holding out for a bigger contract. Then I realized I'd been doing that same thing for two years, waiting for some ideal opportunity that never actually shows up. Has anyone else ever caught themselves turning down decent work because they were afraid it wasn't good enough?

You ever notice how this same trap shows up in way smaller stuff too? Like how I'll put off changing my oil filter for weeks because I'm waiting for a "better time" to do it, but that time never comes until my engine starts knocking. Or how people skip dinner with friends because they're saving up for a "perfect vacation" that falls through anyway. I think we're wired to treat everything like it's a big deal when most of the time just doing the thing beats waiting for the thing to be perfect.
