Showerthought: I used to think job hopping every 2 years was the only way to get ahead
I had coffee with my old boss from my first real job, the one I left after 18 months. He told me, 'We were about to offer you a lead role on the new project, with a 15k bump. You left right before we could.' That hit different because I'd been chasing titles and cash, thinking loyalty was dead. Now I see staying put for 3 or 4 years can build real trust and open doors you don't even see yet. Has anyone else gotten a big opportunity by just sticking around a bit longer?

It's a gamble either way. The grass is always greener until you find out they were about to water your lawn. That old boss story is a gut punch for sure. Staying put lets people actually see what you can do over time. But you also hear about folks who get stuck and taken for granted. Seems like the real trick is knowing which place is actually worth sticking around for.

Ever notice how this same "stay or go" stress shows up with stuff like phone plans or gym memberships? You're always worried the better deal just got announced. In my experience, the fear of missing out can keep you from seeing the good stuff right in front of you, whether it's a job or a cable package.
