He said the money gets eaten by taxes and lifestyle creep but the title sticks on your resume for the next 10 years. Anyone else had a mentor drop a truth bomb that made you rethink your whole 5 year plan?
At 26 I turned down a "senior" title because the other offer paid $6k more, and my dad just said okay and changed the subject. Three years later I was still explaining my old job to recruiters while the guy who took the senior role was getting calls for manager spots without even applying. The $6k came out to maybe $200 a month after taxes and I honestly don't know where it went, probably tacos and a slightly nicer apartment. The title would've put me two rungs up the ladder by now. I used to roll my eyes at people who said take the title, and now I'm the one saying it.
