Hot take: I used to think networking events were a total waste of time

Last month at a conference in Chicago, this guy named Dave from a marketing firm sat down next to me during lunch and just asked about my projects without trying to sell me anything. He listened for 20 minutes straight and then connected me to two people who actually needed my skills. Now I'm reconsidering going to the next monthly meetup downtown - has anyone else had a random conversation that actually led somewhere?

Strikes me as one of those things where the best stuff happens when you least expect it, not when you're forcing it. Kinda like how I found my favorite coffee spot just by getting lost one afternoon lol.
