Heads up on that new vacuum tumbler I bought last month
Spent about $2,500 on the 'ProVac 20' hoping it would speed up our brine injection for hams and bacon. It worked great for a week, then the seal on the main chamber blew out during a cycle. The company says it's a known issue with the first batch, but getting the part has taken three weeks and counting. Now I'm back to the old manual tumbler and falling behind on orders. Has anyone else had a problem with their vacuum gear lately, or found a brand that holds up better?

My old tumbler is held together with hose clamps and hope, so you're already ahead of me. Blowing a seal on a brand new machine is brutal, especially for that price. Three weeks for a part they know is bad is just taking the money and running. I've had decent luck with the basic Vorton units, but they're slow. The real joke is that my backup plan is also duct tape.

Man, that's the whole modern life trap right there. We're all just buying slightly nicer versions of things that are still designed to fail. Your backup plan being duct tape says it all, it's like we're paying a premium just to delay the moment we have to get the tape out. The whole system counts on us being too tired to send the broken thing back and fight for a refund.

My last blender from that brand lasted eight years before the motor gave out. Sometimes you just get a bad unit, but I've had more good ones than lemons.
