When my family only sees our garden as a photo backdrop
I really love tending to my plants and watching them grow. But my kids and my partner treat the garden like it's just a spot for social media pictures. Last weekend, they spent an hour taking selfies with the sunflowers instead of helping water them. It makes me sad that they don't seem to care about the actual plants. How can I get them more involved in the gardening part? I want to share this hobby with them in a real way. Any advice from others who've faced this?

My neighbor's kid was the same way until they planted a pizza garden. They put in tomatoes, basil, oregano, and peppers. Now he checks the plants every day because he wants to make sauce. Maybe try planting something they really want to eat? My kids got into strawberries that way. They still take pictures, but now they also fight over who gets to pick the ripe ones.

Love the pizza garden idea. I tried something similar with salsa ingredients but my cat kept digging up the cilantro. Maybe I should have started with something less tempting to pets, like rosemary.

Read a blog post that called this the "pizza garden effect" for getting kids involved.
