Seeing my book club ditch the read for the streaming series felt wrong

We picked a dense novel to discuss, but most just watched the faster paced show instead. Now I'm stuck between calling them out for skipping the source material or letting it slide since they engaged with the story. Where do you draw the line on adaptation shortcuts being okay?
