My buddy Dave swore the book was better than the movie and I finally get it after watching Dune Part Two.
He told me three years ago that Herbert's pacing and inner monologues are impossible to translate, and after seeing how much they cut out from the second half of the book in just 2 hours 45 minutes, I finally realized he was right the whole time, has anyone else had that friend who won't shut up about the original source material?

3 years of Bombadil rants from @wright.jesse's buddy Carl sounds like the kind of friendship tax we all pay for having friends who read books. At least Dave only made you wait 3 years to prove his point, Carl's probably still going to be arguing about a singing tree at the retirement home.

My buddy Carl is the exact same way with Lord of the Rings. He spent like 20 minutes ranting about how the movie left out Tom Bombadil and I just sat there nodding like I knew what he was talking about. I finally read Fellowship last year and yeah, that guy is a weird character who doesn't really do much for the plot except sing at trees. Still, Carl won't let it go even now, every time we watch the movies he brings it up like it's the biggest crime in cinema history. I guess some people just need to feel superior about their reading habits lmao.
