I used to hate the Harry Potter movies until someone pointed out the casting
My friend told me I was being too harsh comparing every scene to the books and that the actors really brought the characters to life... especially Maggie Smith as McGonagall. Now I watch them separately from the books and enjoy them way more. Has anyone else separated the two in their head like that?

Funny enough I actually had the opposite reaction - once I knew what the actors looked like it made the books harder to read because I couldn't picture them how I used to. Maybe it's just me but I liked having my own versions in my head.

oh totally agree with you on that, once you separate the movies from the books they become way more enjoyable on their own terms. i actually watched the movies first then read the books so i never had that issue of comparing every little thing. but i get what the other commenter said too, after seeing the actors it does kinda lock their faces into your brain forever. for me that was a good thing though, made the characters feel more real.
