I finally watched the new Dune movie after reading the book last month
Everyone online seems to think the movie is a perfect adaptation, but I don't get it. I read the book in about three weeks and felt the movie cut too much of the political buildup from the first half. For example, the dinner scene on Arrakis was way shorter and lost a lot of the tension. The visuals were amazing, but the story felt rushed compared to the book's slow burn. Has anyone else felt the movie version missed some key details from the novel?

You're not wrong about the dinner scene. That whole sequence in the book is a masterclass in quiet political maneuvering. The movie had to condense a lot to fit the runtime, so some of that subtle tension got lost. It's a great film, but it's more of a highlight reel of the book's biggest moments.

Totally agree with you. The dinner scene was such a huge letdown for me. That part in the book was so tense and full of little clues, and the movie just blew right past it. I felt like they traded all that great political stuff for more action scenes.
