Hit 100 book adaptations logged and my spreadsheet is judging me
I started tracking every book to movie/show adaptation I watch back in January, just a simple note on my phone. Last night I hit number 100 when I finished the new version of The Three-Body Problem on Netflix. Turns out I prefer the 2009 Chinese series over the Netflix one, the pacing just hits different when it spans 30 episodes. Now I'm second guessing my whole ranking system because 100 is a big round number, how do you all organize your adaptation watch lists without going insane?

Do you rank the adaptation by how close it sticks to the book, or by how good it works as its own thing? Cause those are two totally different lists in my experience. I had to split mine into "faithful but boring" and "wildly different but amazing" after like 30 entries, otherwise I kept flip flopping on scores. Also, what's your system for counting something like The Three-Body Problem where you watched both versions? Is that one entry or two? That detail would drive me nuts at 100.

Tacking onto what you said, @gray_roberts, I ended up splitting mine into "book made me love it more" and "show made me forget the book" because the faithful ones always bored me eventually. The Three-Body Problem thing, I count both versions as separate entries, but I rank them against each other first, then against the book, so it's like a mini-tournament in my head. By 100 you gotta just accept the chaos, my spreadsheet now has a tab called "judgment calls" and it's honestly the most honest part of the whole thing.
