I used to think our book club needed to finish every book, no matter what

We were slogging through 'The Luminaries' for our Portland group, and after three meetings, only two of us were past page 200. Sarah finally said, 'This is making people dread coming. Why are we forcing it?' She was right. We voted to drop it and pick something new. Has your club ever just given up on a book?

Ever see a book club just fall apart over one pick? My buddy's group tried to read 'Infinite Jest' and it was a total mess, like half the people just stopped showing up to meetings. They kept trying to push through for months because they felt guilty about quitting. Finally someone said this wasn't fun anymore and they were all just relieved to drop it. Sometimes a bad book can kill the whole vibe if you let it.

Yeah @grant826, that guilt thing is what really kills the vibe.
