Yeah I'm probably that friend. I've been known to do that more than I'd like to admit.

Tell your friend to set a timer on their phone for five minutes before they need to leave. It's a stupid simple trick, but it works. They'll hear the alarm and it breaks that focus where you lose track of time. People get stuck in their own heads and just need a physical reminder to snap out of it.
