Used a car jack to lift a boiler section when the shop crane was out
We were setting a 500 pound economizer section and the overhead crane motor blew. My partner said to try his 3-ton floor jack from his truck, so we blocked it up with cribbing and slowly pumped it into place. Anyone ever had to improvise a lift like that on a tight deadline?

Always double-check your cribbing before putting weight on it.

Blocked it up with cribbing" sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. That's a good way to get crushed when something slips. You should have just waited for the right tool.
