Update: My dog thought my new board game piece was a chew toy
I spent all weekend painting a detailed miniature for our D&D session. Left it on the couch to dry while I grabbed a drink. Came back to find my dog happily gnawing on it like a bone. Now I have to tell the party their wizard looks a bit chewed up.

That miniature probably took what, six hours to paint all the tiny robes and staff details... Dogs have a way of finding the most valuable things to treat like a toy. You could tell your party the wizard had a run-in with a magical beast that left bite marks... I had a similar thing happen with a freshly painted orc figure my puppy got to. Maybe you can turn it into a story about how the wizard looks battle-hardened now.

Wince at the idea of calling chew marks "battle damage." That only works for certain types of minis. A gnawed-up orc warrior? Perfect. But a finely dressed court wizard with delicate robes? Now he just looks chewed. The story doesn't fix the hours of careful layering on that silk trim, turning it into a ragged mess. Some minis are built for grit, others are labors of love that a dog just ruins.
