Took me 3 hours to set up a Catan tournament bracket
I run a small monthly game night at my local library and last week I tried to organize a 16 player Catan tournament. I figured I could just wing it with a whiteboard and some markers. Three hours later I was drawing and erasing brackets trying to make sure nobody played the same person twice. Next time I'm just using a free online bracket tool from the start. Has anyone else wasted a whole evening on tournament logistics for a simple game night?

Honestly I used to be one of those people who thought winging it was faster than planning ahead. But after a similar nightmare with a Magic draft night I'm totally on your side now, a bracket tool saves so much headache. Did you find a good free one or just search around?

My buddy Dave tried the same thing for a Settlers tournament at his church last year. He spent the whole night drawing charts on a big poster board and ended up with so many eraser marks the thing looked like a mess. He had to restart the whole bracket twice because he forgot to account for a couple of people who had to leave early. By the time he finally got it right, everyone was too tired to play and most had gone home. He showed me the final bracket the next day and it looked like a kid's doodle. Now he just uses index cards and shuffles them around on the floor before each round, says it works way better.
