Thought that fancy dice tray was dumb... until I actually used one

My buddy brought over this $60 wooden dice tray with a velvet bottom for game night last month. I laughed and said it was a waste of money. Then I rolled my dice and they kept falling off the edge of the table or knocking over my cards. After watching him use it for 10 minutes I grabbed it and honestly it changed how smooth the whole game felt. Anyone else have a game accessory they were dead wrong about?

Wait, doesn't the table just do the same job? I've been using a $5 placemat from Target for years and it works fine. Not sure why I'd need a special box for rolling dice.

Oh man, the placemat thing is exactly what I do too. I've got this old cork one from IKEA that cost like 3 bucks and it's been my dice rolling surface for years. Honestly I just don't get the whole craze with these fancy wooden boxes and velvet lined trays, especially when you can grab something that works just as well for next to nothing. My kitchen table has a few dents from rolling and the placemat is held together with tape at this point but hey it still does the job fine.
