That $60 expansion pack I bought is gathering dust after one play

I picked up the "Rise of the Farmers" expansion for a trading game I love back in March. It was $60 and I was so excited to add more depth to the game nights. We played it exactly once and it completely bogged down the flow. Suddenly a 90 minute game turned into a 3 hour slog with way too many rules to track. My group voted to never use it again after that session. Now the box just sits on my shelf mocking me. Anyone else jump on an expansion that ended up ruining the fun instead of adding to it?

I've been down that same road. Best thing to do is sell it while it's still somewhat desirable or trade it for something your group will actually use. Board game resale groups on Facebook or BGG marketplace move stuff fast if you price it right. I also learned to TRY any expansion at a local game store's demo copy before buying. Saved me from a few more $60 paperweights.

Yeah that "try before you buy" line hit home for me. I've got like 4 expansions sitting on my shelf that my group played exactly once. They just sit there collecting dust now. One of them we opened, played half a game, and nobody wanted to touch it again. Should've just went to the local shop and tried their demo copy first like you said. Now I gotta deal with the hassle of selling them. Wish I learned that lesson sooner instead of wasting all that cash.
