My friend's board game apology was more complex than the game itself

We were playing a heavy strategy game, and he made a play that ruined my plan. Instead of just saying sorry, he wrote a formal letter of regret citing specific game mechanics. It took longer to read than our last round. I'm not sure if this is dedication or insanity. What's the most over-the-top reaction you've seen to a board game play?

That's some serious dedication to guilt. I once saw a player bring a notary to witness a formal apology for breaking a game night truce.

Told my buddy his apology was getting its own expansion pack and we needed to get back to the actual game. He laughed, put the note away, and we just kept playing. Sometimes calling out the over-the-top stuff in a joking way works.

At the board game cafe downtown, I watched a player create a slideshow to say sorry for stealing a resource. It had graphs and everything. Your friend's letter sounds just as bad. Some people take these games way too seriously. I feel for you, having to sit through that instead of just playing.
