I used to set up every derailleur hanger with a straightedge, but after a customer's new carbon frame needed a $400 repair from a bent hanger, I switched to a dedicated alignment tool for every build.
Has anyone else found a specific job where a 'good enough' old method just stopped being worth the risk?

Wait, the hanger bent the carbon frame? I always thought those things were supposed to bend or break first to save the frame... that's wild. A little aluminum piece causing that much damage just doesn't seem right. Makes you wonder about the design. Guess the tool pays for itself real quick if that's the other option.
